Congratulations to Ken Sperry for his 1st Place Chili. Way to go Ken!
Happy to report that Robert "Lurch" Sullivan was able to make it down from Denton. Still recovering from a recent partial big toe amputation, Lurch, in his special walking boot and with the aid of a cane, cooked up one heck of a good pot of chili - so good it landed him in one of the top ten spots - something he said he'd never done before.
Poor Dwight. He’s just having the hardest time with beans lately. In June at the Chisholm Trail Roundup he got so busy that he forgot to turn in his judging cup. In Harker Heights he put his beans on for a quick soak method...you know, when you bring ‘em to a boil and then turn ‘em off and let ‘em sit for an hour. Apparently he lit the fire and then walked away from the stove. By the time he remembered ‘em they had turned to little bits of charcoal in the bottom of his cooking pot. With a mad dash to HEB in nearby Killeen for a new bag of pintos, and a loaner cooking pot, Dwight threw together the fastest pot of beans in the West. And he won 1st Place with ‘em to boot!
