The Old School House Chili & BBQ Cookoff out in Red Rock last weekend was fantastic!!! The location was absolutely wonderful, and the weather couldn't have been better. There were 46 chili entries turned in with top honors and bragging rights going to Lew Routon of Austin. Dwight Hamilton finally got 1st Place Beans, but only having entered the contest at the insistence of wife Teri after she had discovered an old bag of beans that had been stashed in a cupboard.
Beans weren't the only misplaced, left behind or just plain forgotten item at the Old School House cookoff either. Cristine Knight forgot to pack a stove and ended up borrowing someone else’s. One of the Martini Girls, and I won't say which one, can't seem to keep up with where she's been, what she had with her when she was there, or what she left behind when she left. Mainly because she didn't take it there even though that's where it was found. Confused? Don't be. It could just be a Martini-ism.
A very special thank you to all of the Martini Girls for putting on yet another great event. They were all seen working throughout the day, even the Martinis in-training. Debbi Tucker and Janet Matthews have got it going on, that's for sure.
We'd also like to thank Laurence Huckabee for once helping out with judging as well as donating a steak cooker to the auction. Another thank you to Paulette Hayter of our home venue Cedar Hall for so very generously donating several items to the auction. Paulette was a vigorous and enthusiastic bidder too, and we hope she won the items she wanted! Go Cedar Hall!
All of the categories had a good number of participants and the auction was very successful too. Debbi Tucker reports that the event raised over $3,000 for division between the Red Rock Community Center and ALS. Hot dog, and Yeah Us! All of the stats and a photo slide show are posted below.
