Tolbert Texas Open Lockhart 3/19/2011

Congratulations to Tabitha Williams,

2011 Al Hopkins - Tolbert Texas State Winner!

Raising a toast to BB.
Special thanks to Kathi Bliss of the Lockhart Post-Register for sending us this picture.

LOCKHART, March 19, 2001.   This gal's only been cooking competition chili for about a year.  That's a whole lotta luck and a good recipe.  Tabitha hails from Luling, Texas and is sponsored by Cedar Hall Bar & Grill in Lockhart.  Congratulations again Tabitha!  You are now qualified to cook Behind the Store in November!  May your stove function properly for years to come.

We had record numbers this year.  There were 72 chili cooks that turned in samples, 44 beans, 15 Margaritas, 16 Bloody Marys, 23 pork ribs and 23 brisket entries.  All together we raised nearly $3,000 in entry fees.  We'll finish our accounting in the next few days, but it looks like we've raised a good bit of money to help support the cookoff Behind the Store and the CTTCG Terlingua events.
Chili was the star of the day, but other things were going on too.  Sam Brown of Red Rock won the first 50/50, and Sharon Seygart of Cedar Creek won the second.  Both took home an unexpected wad of cash, about $250 each.  Doug Higgins of San Marcos won the Electric Cajun Injector fryer raffle, and Janet Matthews representing Matt's Bait won the People's Choice chili tasting contest.  Congratulations to all the winners.   Want more details on who won what?  See the Tolbert Texas Open page for all the stats and a slide show too.
A special thank you to our special celebrity judges: Joe "Willamina," and Jane Felty of Waxahachie, Tom Nall, Jack and Rhonda Potter and The Scorpion Wrangler himself, Mr. Richard Willis of the Greater Fitzhugh Metropolitan Area for helping to select this year's winner.  Thank you also to Wayne and Debbie Turner for their much appreciated advice and support.
The City of Lockhart not only extends their well wishes to Tabitha Williams on her first place win, they also want to thank all of the participants for being so conscientious and leaving the City Park as clean as we found it.  Short of cleaning the bathrooms, their grounds crew had little to do in picking up behind us.  So. keep up the good work folks -  we love it when they talk nice about us!

We also want to thank all those folks that worked so long and tirelessly to keep this cookoff on track, and put in the extra effort to pull off a smooth, seemless event.  Special recognition to Wayne Bock and Becki Womble of the Lockhart Chamber of Commerce, Terry and Peggy Wright, Greg Dockery, Ron Faulstich, Tom Stephens, Debbi Tucker, Janet Matthews, Teri Hamilton, Matthew Sturn, Jamie Brown, and Russell Seeglier.  There are others - and you know who you are - we love you and couldn't do it without you!
